Buildout Line (BOL) for small-side games 7v7 or 8v8 is used to promote the ball being played out from the back in a less pressured setting.
• Goal-Kick - Opposing team may not cross the BOL until the ball is touched by their teammate otherwise the GK is retaken.
• Keeper possession - opposing team must retreat or be retreating behind the BOL until the keeper puts the ball into play & teammate touches the ball.
• Free-Kick (not a GK or Keeper possession) - the build out line does not apply.
• Keeper Punt or foul: Indirect Free Kick awarded
• Offside (Law 11) is only enforced between the build out line and the goal line. Attacking players are not in an offside position if they are between the halfway line and BOL.
All leagues the opposing team cannot cross the BOL until a 2nd player touches the ball (i.e. Goal kick ball leaves 18 & is touched by teammate) unless the keeper plays the ball to their feet or the ball stops. For MNJYSA/Travel the 2nd touch is not required. Always know the Local Rules of Competition!
