Intercounty provides a competitive, “recreation style” travel-alternate soccer program starting at U9 for 3rd graders. Players in 3rd Grade and older choose either Intercounty Soccer (open registration) or Travel Soccer (tryouts and fall/spring commitment required). Note that in Intercounty U9&U10 players are combined (typically 3rd and 4th graders) in the U10 division which is weighted by team level of play.
Intercounty Soccer is a limited-travel, competitive recreation league made up of teams from 22 towns surrounding or near Cranford, providing the opportunity for non-travel soccer players to participate and develop their skills in a competitive environment.  Expect travel up to about 35 minutes with teams in Union, Middlesex & Morris county. League teams are recreational, which means that everyone who signs-up (on time) will be assigned to a team & partipcates without incident will play at least half of each game. Rosters are kept small enough to allow this while providing ample substitution if multiple players cannot attend a game.

Season: Fall (late Aug to mid-November) and/or Spring (late March to mid-June)

  • Game Days & Time:  Saturdays (any time) or Sundays (preferably after 12-noon) as scheduled by the soccer league and confirmed by the club of the home game. Home team sets time/date/location.
  • Number of Games: 9-12 games on weekends Sat or Sunday
  • Game Location: Approximately half of the games will be in town, half will be “away” games.
  • Up to 13 hours Professional Training provided by: United Soccer Academy: 1 x 90-min (going to 1×60-min as sun sets earlier) weekday training session, 10-week curriculum. Training time/day set by CSC & Head Coach after teams are formed (same day all season).
  • Additional Practices: As determined by the Coach (1 additional weekly coach-run practice is typical)
  • USA Gold Membership included
  • Uniform required to play: Gold jersey, Blue jersey each with CSC logo and number, blue shorts, blue socks). Package available for new players. Also shin guards (mandatory) and rubber-cleat soccer shoes (recommended).
REGISTRATION opens at the end of the season & GOES TO WAIT LIST AUTOMATICALLY once roster/training slots are filled.  Standard registration ends 45 days prior to kickoff to allow proper coordination of teams & volunteer coaches (i.e. July 26th (Fall) or Feb 1 (Spring)).  Late registration (with additional Late Fee) then applies without exception. NO SPACES ARE GUARANTEED. See registration area for specific costs.

Travel Soccer (birthyear 2009 and older)

Travel Tryout Overview – April 2017 – For the Fall 2017/Spring 2018 Season

PLEASE NOTE UPDATE TRYOUT INFORMATION BELOW – UPDATE 5.15.17

It’s time to register for tryouts for the 2017/2018 Cranford Soccer Travel season!

Registration is open now and will go through May 1. The fee for tryouts will be $20 per player trying out. The details below will help you understand the tryout process and give you the tryout dates for each age group. Age groups are determined by the child’s birth year. The Travel Guidelines document here – CSC Travel Guidelines 2017 – 2018 – gives you a complete point of view on the program. We hope your young player feels like giving it a shot!

If you still have questions after reviewing, please contact Karen Lynch, our VP of travel, at kazpal10@gmail.com.

For tryouts, our goal is to have two or more teams set up for each age group for both boys and girls. Of course that depends on volume of kids we have trying out, which is why we encourage every family with a desire to try travel to come out to the tryouts. Our tryouts happen each year for both new and returning players … all players must tryout each and every year.

We typically have two tryouts for every age group that consist of the following formats, and we strongly urge every child who comes out to attend both tryouts:
1st Session:  1.5 hours (30 minute skill-based / 60 minutes 3v3 or 4v4 scrimmages)
2nd Session:  1.5 hours (30 minute small sided scrimmage / 60 minute 7v7 or 8v8 scrimmages)
*** PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO WEATHER SOME AGE GROUPS WILL ONLY HAVE ONE TRYOUT FOR THE FALL 2017/SPRING 2018 SEASON. SEE UPDATED SCHEDULE BELOW. ***

These tryouts are run by USA Sports Group, whose trainers control all scoring/rankings of the kids during each of the tryouts. We feel it is very important that all scoring is handled by USA Sports Group so everything is done by a ‘neutral’ party. At the conclusion of the two tryouts, USA submits their scoring to us, which is used to form teams. The best score is kept across the two tryouts, which is why we urge all kids to attend both tryout sessions. It is important that these scores are not published outside of the board and coaches. These USA scores are also not discussed externally with any parent.

The majority of the age groups will try out on May 13 and May 20, and we always do our best to coordinate with other members of the club so we avoid conflicts with existing game schedules.

For tryout dates, we’ll start with the oldest first. All tryouts are NOW slated to be held at Hillside Avenue School (field directly behind the school). Hillside Avenue School is at 125 Hillside Avenue in Cranford.
