Intercounty provides a recreational soccer program with open enrollment until teams are full. It is recreational (no tryouts) yet provides a semi competitive travel-alternate soccer program starting at U9 for 2nd/3rd graders. Note that in Intercounty U9&U10 players are combined (typically 3rd and 4th graders) in the U10 division which is weighted by team level of play.
Intercounty Soccer is a recreational (semi-competitive) league made up of teams from 22 towns surrounding or near Cranford, providing the opportunity for non-travel soccer players. All matches are within about 35 minutes with teams in Union, Middlesex & Morris county. Teams in the league are recreational, which means that everyone who signs-up (on time) will be assigned to a team & partipcates in at least half the (barring injury, caution or send-off). Rosters are set to allow ample substitution & accommodate when players cannot attend a game (attendance to all soccer events is optional).

Uniforms

All InterCounty uniforms should have been fitted and ordered by now through Cougar HQ. If you child did not play in the Spring, the need the new uniform!

If you haven’t already, you need to go to Cougar HQ to be fitted and order one but it will not be ready in time for the seasons first game. I also recommend you purchase a Cranford Blue and Gold T-shirts for them to wear for games while the uniforms are being prepared.

Parents Guide to Youth Soccer

Soccer is a contact sport – your child will/shall/may get knocked down, pushed, tripped or just fall over during practices and games. It is going to happen but our volunteer coaches and referee’s priority has been and will always be, Safety First!

Encourage all the kids, allow the kids to learn, its OK for them to make mistakes, let them enjoy the game to the best of their abilities.

Refrain from shouting instructions, that what the coaches job is and it may confuses the players.

Travel Soccer (birthyear 2010 and older)

Travel Tryout Overview – April 2018 – For the Fall 2018/Spring 2019 Season

Travel Tryout Dates/Times click here for specifics

It will be soon time to register for tryouts for the 2018/2019 Cranford Soccer Travel season!

Registration is open now and will go through May 1. The fee for tryouts will be $20 per player trying out. The details below will help you understand the tryout process and give you the tryout dates for each age group. Age groups are determined by the child’s birth year. The Travel Guidelines document here – CSC Travel Guidelines 2017 – 2018 – gives you a complete point of view on the program. We hope your young player feels like giving it a shot!

For tryouts, our goal is to have two or more teams set up for each age group for both boys and girls. Of course that depends on volume of kids we have trying out, which is why we encourage every family with a desire to try travel to come out to the tryouts. Our tryouts happen each year for both new and returning players … all players must tryout each and every year.

We typically have two tryouts for every age group that consist of the following formats, and we strongly urge every child who comes out to attend both tryouts:
1st Session:  1.5 hours (30 minute skill-based / 60 minutes 3v3 or 4v4 scrimmages)
2nd Session:  1.5 hours (30 minute small sided scrimmage / 60 minute 7v7 or 8v8 scrimmages)

These tryouts are run by USA Sports Group, whose trainers control all scoring/rankings of the kids during each of the tryouts. We feel it is very important that all scoring is handled by USA Sports Group so everything is done by a ‘neutral’ party. At the conclusion of the two tryouts, USA submits their scoring to us, which is used to form teams. The best score is kept across the two tryouts, which is why we urge all kids to attend both tryout sessions. It is important that these scores are not published outside of the board and coaches. These USA scores are also not discussed externally with any parent.
